how to simulate cantilever model of transformer in matlab??

The pdf discusses a method for stepping up a power supply by charging capacitors in parallel, then discharging them in series. It looks very useful, claiming an efficiency above 93 percent.

To simulate the coupled inductor, it would be easy to suggest using a transformer.
However the schematics do not portray the two coils as a transformer.

The coils influence each other first in one direction, then the other, at different parts of the cycle.
Apparently we are to understand them as two halves of one component.
