how to interface dm642 video port directly to an LCD module?

dm642 videoport beispiel

i read TI's document and searched on the Internet, finding that the most common solution is interfacing dm642 video port to an LCD controller.

The problem is that why there must be a controller, can the dm642 video port interface directly to an LCD module? if so , the space as well as the cost for the controller will be saved.

Would anyone please provide some information about the solution?
