Capacitor can retain charge for very long time. Resistor on capacitor is for safety purpose. It is to discharge capacitor when power is off.

What might happen bad if we don't connect resistor across capacitor (connected in capacitor banks) ?

How to calculate the resistance value of that particular resistor and its wattage (power) rating ?
