Generator Matrix

Hello Friends

whenever i google for the channel coding and the generator matrix, i face the generator matrix G(4,7) or other, but i want to know, how to generate the generator matrix itself?

i read a lot of books about GF and the algebra for the fields, rings, and sub fields and so on..... but i need something to be like the rule of thumb, help me please.

every time i find this generator matrix as an example in most the websites or tutorials or books...........

g=[1 0 0 1 1 1 0 1 1 1;
1 1 1 0 0 0 1 1 1 0;
0 1 1 0 1 1 0 1 0 1;
1 1 0 1 1 1 1 0 0 1];

I think the minimum distance is the rule of creating G

No my friend, this is wrong, there are some rules must obey such as the polynomials and fields and so on......
