How to design a LNA ?

8O Hi,I'm a new designer for Bluetooth!!!And I want to design a LNA simulated with Agilent ADS!
Someone could give me a hand ?
Thanks a lot!!!

Re: How to design a LNA ?

You can have a look at agilent semiconductor www, the FET ATF-xxxx family has good examples, app-notes and I think some ADS examples.

Sorry, but I think I only have MWO examples for LNAs

I home you are looky

Re: How to design a LNA ?

For low noise designs, you have to present a different source impedance compared to the maximum gain value. If the transistor is designed for low noise, the data sheet will have the information on how the source impedance affects the noise figure. It should either have a table of optimum sources or a smith chart with noise figure contours with the chart coordinates being the source impedance.

Hi tapa,Happy new year!

Do you have some experience in LNA design?

Can you show me some design guides in bias circuit design?

Thanks

Re: How to design a LNA ?

you can have a look at ADS lna example and go to agilent website to look for some design document.

Re: How to design a LNA ?

there are two examples. Check here

\examples\MW_Ckts\LNA_prj
\examples\MW_Ckts\LNA_1GHz_prj

Re: How to design a LNA ?

Why don't you start from the design guide in @DS?

Re: How to design a LNA ?

Hi If you are using CMOS
Try to check Thomas Lee's book, I remember there is a very good example, also his paper about add Capacitor between gate and source.

Re: How to design a LNA ?

Try to read Gonzale's book (available into e-book forum), there's a great description and several examples.
bye Mrm

u can see ADS that is student's course workbook
or go to google type this "LNA pdf"
u can see many useful paper!!
good luck!!

Re: How to design a LNA ?

In case you need to build your circuit without delay and you do not have experience in LNA design, you can try using Agilent ATF34143 for bluetooth application. Even without input matching for low noise figure, you can still achieve gain greater than 13 dB and noise figure less than 1dB at 2.45 GHz.

Re: How to design a LNA ?

i think you can begin it with the examples in @DS
they are expecially helpful for beginner of microwave circuit design

good lucky!

How much is your goal for LNA ,frequency, NF ,Gain IP3?

Re: How to design a LNA ?

If you use cadence, perhaps I can
send a paper to you.

Re: How to design a LNA ?

Why can't we design the LNA using SpectreRF?

Re: How to design a LNA ?

If you use @d$, I think that you can read this paper "Using Advanced Design System to Design an MMIC Amplifier", It's useful.

Re: How to design a LNA ?

Good suggestion the last one: useing a MMIC can give good results even with a not so well matched antenna

"Using Advanced Design System to Design an MMIC Amplifier" is freely downloadable from Agilent web site.

i'm learning to design a LNA in X band too,
you should think about you bias circuit!
