How to check if a bus is available for transmission using CAN code?

hi to all

Iam doing a project in CAN using MCP2515 interfaced with AT89s51,while transmitting data from one node to another,how can i check that the bus is available for transmission,can any one help me please....

I think its the MCP2515 job see datasheet page 15

3.3 Initiating Transmission

"Note: Setting the TXBnCTRL.TXREQ bit do
not initiate a message transmission....transmission will
start when the device detects that the bus
is available"
