How to build a Chess clock ?

I'd like to build a chess clock, I mean those timers that count down a programmed time and everytime one player clicks on a button his time stops and the opponent's time starts counting down... any help please ?
 

It can be done in 101 ways ..
Here is an example based on 1s-555-timer, counters and BCD-7-segment ICs:
