How much weight that stepper motor can lift

Hi guys,

Now i want to use stepper motor to control the rotation of steering wheel which holding at the steering shaft. But now i facing a problem which my stepper motor able to make it rotate or not. Is there any calculation for that?

Example of bipolar motor that i want to buy .

Sure there is, there is a bunch of physics behind converting rotational torque to lifting force. Here is my crude explanation.
So you are going to want to keep an eye on the torque rating. The torque rating will give you the amount of force your motor can generate based on a radius (which usually if your shaft or other fixed mediums). Next you want to calculate the amount of force to lift your object. Usually this is weight times gravity to give you Newtons. So once you figure out those two things, you would need to find the optimal distance to be able to lift the object.

So if I have a 4 N*cm motor and a 1 kg object. 1 kg *9.81 = 9.81N. 4N*cm/9.81N = 0.4077. That means with that load and the motor I have, I could have a minimum radius of 0.4077cm. (I think all these numbers are right).

Assume that my Steering Shaft is 1kg and the motor have 1Nm torque.

The Calculation will be r = 1NM/9.81
= 0.1m
=~ 10cm

So i need at least 10cm for the steering shaft radius, if not it won't able to rotate.

Am i Correct?
