fault simulation

Hi
Working on my thesis, which is GA based test pattern generation, I faced a problem. I dont know what can I simulate circuit faults. I have made a test bed in C# for GA part but for evaluating the patterns I need them given to the circuits input and simulate the fault free and faulty circuits and then for the patterns fitnesses I should use fault coverage.
How can I simulate my benchmarks with the input patterns?
