How can I make my own receiver?

The receiver circuit present in post #4 was assembled using a PCB long ago(1999). I have been using it to turn a light on - off.
The transmitter circuit in post #4 was assembled on a veroboard.(protopype picture in post #19 ). I use a small plastic box with a 9V battery as remote control.

The small receiver circuit to blink an LED in post number #14 (picture in post 19, right hand side) was assembled on a veroboard.

You can assemble your circuit on a breadboard too. Only pay attention for loose contacts as no soldering is involved.
 
What if i want to extend this.
I want the output led to toggle each time TSOP detects a wave? What changes should i make in the receiver circuit?
