I am designing a microstrip patch antenna and would like to calculate or plot the electric field in the substrate at a some finite distance from the antenna. Does anybody know how to do that?

Oh. I didn't know non-model objects could be used this way. Thank you so much!

How I thought to resolve the problem was - to "insert a near field set up" (just as we do for the far field) and set some radius from the antenna where the field is to be computed. What do you think about this solution?

That could work, but observing the actual fields inside your solution domain is still probably your best bet.

Good Luck!
