Help me use VB mscomm to control UPS

hello everyone i am working on a ups software i have already made it but some problems are still present.i am using vb mscomm control my ups is controlled by 8051 i want that on battery low condition the software should save all the running programs and then shutdown the pc my software is capable of sensing every event
and transmitt a particular code
thanks.
