from the attachment enclosed..i wan to ask why we need to connect the 2 diodes in between the capacitor (the one highlighted)..iizztt used to prevent the capacitor from discharging?10ssss

Well you must remember that the Xc = 1/fC, for DC high impedance, for AC low impedance, so only AC can pass to D2. S2 seems to work to keep D2 conducting.
