Intel 88C196?

Hi, I am new here.
I am going to design a new control system. the requirement for the main control will be:
1) 16 bit core.
2) with certain amont of internal flash so code can be protected.
3) support external addressing >= 1MB
4) support at least one CAN bus
5) support slave MPU('s) for redudancy (communicate by serial like I2C, SPI, etc).
6) the MPU must have at least 10 years life span and well supported by manufacturer.

I was told ARM processor is very good but I am not farmiliar with ARM family and found two many varieties.
after a little research I chose Intel 88C196.
I am still not satisfied with it because:

1) the speed performance is not very good, aroud 6MIPS(?) at 40MHz oscillator.
2) it only has one UART, I need atleast 2~3 Uart ports.

Any comment or suggestion would be appreciated.

thanks.
