Simply Use a low Q current comperator with low ref e.g 0.5V or less

comper it to the battery voltage via resistor divider and use the output to drive MC I/O or

LED

Don't forget to use hytheresis resistor (< 100 K) to prevent flickering

There are many example in lineartech site @ www.linear.com
