HELP ME! i cannot see any output..

capture error calling vid_start

i am using linux ubuntu 7.10. I have installed my motion software i've downloaded from https://www.lavrsen.dk/twiki/bin/view/Motion/WebHome. but now i cannot see any output grabbed from my analogue camera (using RCA connector) that i connect to my capture card. when i run my motion software, i get error.. I am beginner and i am really run out of idea how to do it...:-(
