hiii, i am engg. student i want design unregulated supply

230v-transformer+diode+capacitor-12v dc

how can deside suitable rating of component

diode voltage

capacitor voltage

transformer voltage

Re: power supply circuit

Basically .....In case of regulated power supply operation....there are the factors that you need to keep in mind while designing power supply and selection of the components...
1) Current rating of your power supply
2) Voltage rating and corresponding voltage regulation
3) Ripple present in the power supply
4) did you want to have sense and correct mechanisum
5) Effieciency of power supply

If you have voltage rating of say 12 v and load of 1amp you can think of using 7812 3 pin regulator IC in simple designs.... which will give an efficinency of 80% with voltage regulation arround 5%

Good Luck
