pwm full bridge h

hi.. I want to do a four quadrant dc motor drive. Which bridge does I need? Full-bridge or h-bridge? thanks!

h-bridge regeneration

hi minisan,

Use full bridge for four quadrant.

bridge h regeneration+energy

hi.. thanks!! Mind to share any schematic to do a four quadrant 12V dc motor drive by using full-bridge? I think I am going to use a microcontroller to control the operation and speed of the motor. How to implement PWM? thanks!

dear minisan,
one example is at this site is:

Added after 10 minutes:

For making PWM and control section program one example is at ATMEL company.

at this web page serach for PWM and you will find some documents about making PWM and algorithm (and it's porogram) for control motors.

Hi minisan,

Can this circuit be used to do four quadrant operation? This is a full bridge/h-bridge circuit? Can I connect the PWM output from microcontroller to Point A&B to vary the speed without driver? thanks!!
I think it is not good circuit. but you can use it. and you can connect pins A,B directly to microcontroller.
I recomend to use somthing like this for 4 quadrant operation.
in this circuit each legs controlled seperatly.

really thanks davood..
erm.. i m thinking of the forward and reverse regenerative part. Is there any suggestion how to make the motor becomes a generator? Does disconnecting the supply to the circuit a good way to achieve that, with a capasitor(parallel to the power supply) is used to store the charge? thank you very much!

Dear Minisan,

with full bridge drive it can achived.
suppose a full bridge ciruit which use battery for power supply.
any time average voltage feeded to motor is lower than motor voltage, i mean motor rotate with higher speed, regenaration start.
This phenomena is like step-up swithing regulator.
its component are (internal) motor self inductance and 4 diodes (paralleled with 4 transistors switch).
returned motor energy going to charge battery.

Note: for regeneration purpose (one leg of) PWM must on full time,
even for ≈0V output voltage.
Other leg must set to high or low, depend on rotation direction.

Regards,
Davood.
