I have a chip module that accepts host interface of either:
1) MII PHY
2) GPSI PHY
3) MII Host/DTE

1) I know this is related to the typical LAN or Ethernet connection. How do i implement this?

Do i only need a PHY transceiver such as the KENDIN KS8721B and a RJ45 jack?

I've seen things such as the LinkCom LAN1102 10/100 BASE-T single port surface mount magnetics together with the PHY transceiver chips. What are they for? Line isolation? Do i need them or can i just function the the PHY transceiver?

2) Don't know what is the 2nd one.

3) MII host/DTE. Does it mean that i can use any interface for the DTE, such as the serial port? Which is much simpler than option (1)

Added after 1 hours 32 minutes:

Just found out the 2nd one is General Purpose Serial Interface.

Is this the same serial interface we use to communicate with our COM ports?
