Hi all,

Can anyone please explain me about the effect of notches in layout ? Or kindly provide me any docs or any link.
I've attached the layout view for example.. Here the Metal 1 layer is having notch and DRC will not detect this as an error..

Actually this isn't a notch. A notch is a hack, nick, recess, chamfer, groove, indent, jag or kerf, i.e. a small missing part in a structure.

From a DRC document:
"Notches are to be considered as spacing and must respect the same minimum values."

Thanks erikl

In the snap what i've attached has the metal not connected properly ( metal is not stopped in the place where it should be ) , Will it cause any problem?

Then, Coming to notches.....
Can u explain me with any images I.e., Snaps of -- metals having notches.
Also i need to know about the effect of notch.

Thanks in advance

No.

See here an example: **broken link removed**

Also i need to know about the effect of notch.
Mask/photoresist (lithography) resolution isn't good enough to reproduce such tiny structures. DRC would tell you a violation.

Thanks for your response..

I can't view your attachment, It is showing the error message as
" Invalid Attachment specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the administrator"...

Can you send an valid image again..

I can view it without any problem. Here it is again: notch.jpg

Notches may fail to print as drawn. This is one of those
violations that's more of a "you're not going to get what
you drew" warning than a "you're going to blow up" error.

Since the verification tool knows nothing of intent, you
get warned regardless.

Thanks erikl and dich free_bird,

" Mask/photoresist (lithography) resolution isn't good enough to reproduce such tiny structures. DRC would tell you a violation. "

From the Above statement (from erikl), I 've understood that,

The metals in the following snaps have no notches and there's no problem with those connections, (If i'm not right, please make me clear)..

And the metals in the below attachment have notches, But DRC will tell this as a violation..

It is OK if i'm right..
Else, Kindly I need some of u to conclude this topic...

Thanks,
Satz

Yes, you're right.

Again, this isn't a notch, because these are 2 different metal layers. Only notches within one layer are flagged.
