Hello,

I want to route up the ratsnest, but if there is a ratsnest "piece" between two places, then Eagle will not let me start the track from a physically different part of the same net.....why is this?...and how can i stop this?

You can draw a 'free' track to solve such problems. Draw a free track where you want it to go and then rename it to match the net you want it to connect to (using NAME). Ratsnests will then appear from your new track. You can then finish the connection.

I use a similar technique for power routing sometimes - drawing some wide tracks across the board and naming them +5V etc.
