Dog-ear effect & non-linear device

Hi all,

Two questons ask for help.
Q1: Does anyone hear about dog-ear effect???
The first time I heard of the effect may comes from strange shape of capacitor.
I am not sure it is the right name I put in but sounds like this way.
Does anyone konw more detail about it???

Q2: I read it from a book says "Oscillators and mixers require a nonlinear transfer characteristic and are therefore more difficult to design than standard oinear amplifiers".
why is that? why is required for nonlinear ??

i think the dog-ear is some technique in ic layout where the corners are given an extra extension which makes it shap like dog-ear i think this was to get accurate corners "avoid over etching",,,,,,

2-simply mixer is to multiply f1 by f2 and since non linear devices produce nf1+mf2 so we can use it as mixers,,,

Sounds like there are not only one phenomenon named "dog-ear effect".
It is a little different from layout like dog-ear shape to compensate capacitor.

what I heard is try to avoid strange capacitor layout to make this effect happen.
this effect will show up in RF performance and it is not we want to see.
