Difference between PNP and NPN

What is the difference between PNP and NPN BJT transistors from the aspect point of a switch?

To be more precise, I am asking why it's said that PNP are good sources while NPN are good sinks.

Please illustrate.
 

i suggest u go through sedra and smith once and u would be clear as blue water
