DC to DC Converter Problem

Hi Guys,

I just ordered a DC to DC converter for a project I'm working on. I'm looking to power the positive and negative rails of an audio amplifier. I found on amplifier that I can feed 5 volts to and then get out + and -15 volts. The problem is I can't get the chip to work at all. I bought two of them and neither will give me anything close to the voltage out. In fact, I will feed 5 volts to the chips and then in a second or two it'll just starting pulling a lot of current so that my limiter steps in.

The chip I am using is this:

I am feeding it ground and power and that is it. I know I'm missing something but I don't know what it is. The datasheet looks really simple, but I'm at a loss.

Is it the DCV010515D that you have? I think it is because the output is +/- 15Vdc and the input voltage range is +5Vdc per specification on page 2.

The maximum load is 1 watt which is 33 ma each for the +15Vdc and -15Vdc outputs therefore the loads are <454 ohms.

Input +5Vdc to Vs (pin1), GND to V0 (pin2)
The sync pins 8 and 14 are not connected to anything.

Pins 2 and 5 are not connected internally even though they are both labeled 0V. Psupply in is on 1 & 2 and Pout on 6 & 7 referenced to pin 5.

Pins 2 and 5 can be connected externally depending on your needs.
 

You are reading it exactly like I read it. Just to make sure I was doing things right, I took my source and just plugged +5V into pin 1 and then plugged GND into pin 2. Then I measured the voltage between pins 5 and 6. I read just a couple hundred mV. The readings from pin 5 and 7 was around -2V. After my readings I noticed that the current being drawn started to increase and then the chip started to get hot, so I pulled the power. This happened with both chips that I ordered. I'm not sure what's going on.
 

Sometimes it is the simple parts that cause the most trouble.

Ah, if the internal feedback is current, and magnetically coupled, then it would be very unhappy without a suitable load. Have you tried it with a couple of ~500 ohm resistors on the two outputs?
