can any body describe how to start in the MAC layer design,tools ad materials to read
many thanks in advance
 

I am assuming you're referring to Ethernet MAC. If this is so, then follow the link here for the RTL code and spec on the 10/100 Ethernet MAC implementation: **broken link removed**.

srry i have forgot to mention that it is for a wireless system not ethernet
