Crystal caps

I've been using the internal clock on my hobby Pic micro projects.
but now have a need to use a external crystal ( digikey #x1045-nd)
which the data sheet says use 10-20 pf load caps .
but I'm not sure what type is best (ceramic, film etc. )
just wondering what most use
thanks

Re: Crystal caps

Ceramic caps of ±10% tolerance are adequate for most applications ..

Crystal caps

Hi,
The +/- 10% tolerance can be most time OK, but for better temperature stability is better to use +/-5% specified & COG/NPO typ ceramics...
Mosten are i.e. 18pF with typical layout capacitancies the solution, than a Quartz is fabricated (regularly) for 20pF.
