I have matlab installed in a Fedora 13 Linux box. I can run it from the command line either as a regular user or root, but if I create a launcher so that I can conveniently run it from an icon on the desktop it comes up for about a second and then disappears.
The launcher contains the same command that I use at the command line so what's the difference!

I found the solution at another forum. When running the program from a launcher on the desktop you have to use the following command:

$MATLAB/bin/matlab -desktop where $MATLAB=the absolute path to the directory where Matlab was installed.

I had left out the -desktop option.
