I am making a project of digital clock and i am asked to provide a compensation circuit in my report. if any of the crystals connected to PIC16F877a and DS1307 fail. what will be its replacement. Can you please help me with my problem? I added the schematic of the circuit.

The crystals used in the microcontroller are stable and unlikely to fail for a long duration of time.Still,if you see any sign that clock signals are off-track,then either replace the faulty crystal with a new one on the PCB or get a brownout protection circuit on the digital clock for extra safety.

I used high precision TCXO oscillator in my frequencymeter and used a ttl prescaler for generating timebase.

See accuracy in the datasheet. Or try another manufacturer.
