removing the markings off an ic

Please advise a chemical solution to WASH OFF ( not SCRATCH OFF ) markings ( brandname etc. ) n the IC's surface.

Re: Chemical solution to WASH OFF markings on the IC's surfa

In the modern IC'S teh marking is Laser made, i.e. the surface is digged ( evaporated ) by the power of the laser.
In this case only the file or the grinding machine can help you.

My question is about marking with common white paint.

My question is about marking with common white paint.

Thinner?
Anyway, I think that almost all markings nowadays are done by laser, so...

Yes, what thinner?
Wrong. I have ICs with datecode 0606 marked with common paint.

What kind of thinner exactly would You recommend?

Some markings are laser etched, some use marking ink:

There are various kinds of marking inks, probably requiring different solvents:

Marking inks are designed to not wash off easily. My first guess would be to try an epoxy stripper. However it will probably attack the package too.

If it is really a paint try standard nail polish remover or 100% acetone ..

Methyl ethyl ketone will unpot a potted circuit without damage to electronic components. It may also remove markings. Being very strong it must be treated very cautiously or your children may have tails.

Well, not really tails, but I'd try the other suggestions first.

I had tried some thinners but the fact that inks used by manufacturers are not the same, so I was not successful every time. Plus their smell is terrible and harmful.

So, my most successful solution for every IC is fine water abrasive papers. File is not easy to use. Grinding machine may be the best but you should have the special jigs for clamping ICs and sinking heat from them.
