Hi,
I am trying to connect a 2 HP motor to AC 240 V. Is this connection correct and what is the suitable rating for the VR?
Thanks

Need Help...

Use a 240V motor.

You forgot to say that your motor is made for 120V?
Then the resistor will be huge, very expensive and impossible to find. About 10 ohms at 1500W. A 120V 1500W heater could be used

The motor might not start running with a resistor in series with it because its starting current is much higher than its running current.

Re: Need Help...

hi thanks for the tip..
so what is your suggestion?
I am planning on using a 240 AC V motor. the VR can't be connected in series?

Thanks
