Hi All,

We are having problems to buy ceramic capacitors of 2.2uf, 100V ,1206( package) and X7R. We are trying to find a capacitor which meets that criteria and it is not polarized too.Is there any other kind of capacitor that could meet those requirements?. Tantalum, polymer...etc. It should be as well smd but I understand it may not be possible, any idea or suggestions will be very helpful.

Cheers,
Winsu

With all the requirements you are mentioning, you are stuck with ceramic chips.

In terms of performance film are roughly similar and non-polarized but about an order of magnitude worse in terms of energy density.

So on a quick look SMT 2.2u 100V films are in 4030 packages - much biffer.

So you're stuck with ceramic or a redesign. Though film don't need to be heavily over-rated in terms of voltage, so that helps somewhat.

Yes, this happens because you decided to choose the smallest form factor for 2.2µF/100V presently available on the market. That's careless. Unless a design absolutely requires the smallest package, you should have an option to put in a component from the mid-table. 1206 X5R is still available off-stock, by the way.

Thanks for the comments!, unfortunately the operating range of X5R is not enough for our requirements... It seems like we will have to redesign our boards...
