ettl protocol

Hi all,

does anybody know how to get protocol and schematics to connect and program microcontroller for use on Canon Rebell XT (EOS 350D), to use it's E-TTL2 (or E-TTL) functions? I would like to make myself a LED macro flash and would like to connect it to hot shoe and use the functions of E-TTL(2).
