Hello,

I have been running HSPICE simulations that take the integral of the current from the supply and multiplying it by the voltage of the supply.

Since instantaneous power is P = IV, is what I am measuring considered the total power? Or would this be considered the energy measurement of the circuit?

Thanks.

Re: Power or Energy

Total power.
Since ampre=C/s and volt=J/C
J/s => power.
It`s just dynamic and not static. Look up measuring AC power.

Re: Power or Energy

instantaneous power p=iv which is not equal to IV. there is a difference. small letters represent instantaneous values. capital letters represent average values.

I=[integration over 1 cycle of i(t)]/[time period]

ave ouput power(P)=integration of (i(t)*v(t)) over time period which is equal to I*V

if ur load is purely resistive, v(t)=R.i(t)

thus P=(R/T)* integration of i^2(t)

which is equal to (Irms)^2 * R

thus it is measuring the average output power( Confirm with someone else:roll
