Swapping an old drive for a new model. Motor will run at steady speed input, but mechanics cause the load to cycle on and off 50 times a minute. How do I figure brake resistor size for this application? Not an overhauling load, and not actually braking the motor, just regulating the bus voltage from sudden load shifts. Thank you for your input. 15 hp 460 3p.
Brake resistor is only required for fast motor deceleration or if the load drives the motor back, e.g. in an elevator drive. Not for the sketched application.
--> power.
You may calculate the energy stored in the rotating mass.
If I remember right: W = 0.5 × ( 2 × Pi x RPS)^2 × inertia
The average power = W x (breaks per second)
