between handphone and GSM modem

hai guys..

im currently doing my final year project entitled SMS enabled cage monitoring system. now, my progress is almost done but im having problem at one stage that is to interface between handphone and gsm. actually i dont have any idea at this part. should i directly send the sms to the gsm modem ? or i need to connect my phone to the pc and send the sms through the hyperterminal ??

hope members of this forum can help me as i need to finish this project by next two weeks. Neutral

HI,

We can't able to send SMS from handset to GSM modem. For that some comments are present you should use this through Hyper termial of your computer, Or if you are using Microcontroller interface for your project from that you can send. For both the things some comments are present. Please refer your GSM manual for these comments.

i juz get the idea to send the message thorugh hyperterminal but im interested to know well ur 2nd idea that is using uc interface.So, can you guide me on how to start everything using microcontroller interface??

I would strongly suggest to use hardware USART and if possible interrupts like Darrels Instant Interrupts. It will assure you no lost characters.

Secondly, I see that you are not checking if the modem has replied with OK or an error, except once. Not all commands have the same processing time. So it is a good practise to confirm that the device has accepted succesfully the command by monitoring its response

HI,

For interfacing with Micro, you have to refer your manual. (ie: you purchased the GSM know ? with that they will provide the manual and it contains comments for accessing data ). Otherwise tell your GSM type and Make . If possible I will send the comments to you.
