This animated LED billboard is based on microcontrolled Atmega32 closed in housing TQFP44. Module construction consists of main (display) panel that contains no dead spots under which the control is hidden. Nine display panels can be applied to the main panel. Dimensions of the panels are: 120x240mm, which gives a table with a length of 1,2m and a width of 0,24m.

Parameters:
  • control system: Atmega32
  • memory: 2GB SD memory card
  • LED control systems: 74HC574
  • LED scale: 30mm
  • each frame has a checksum validated before dispalying the image
  • power consumption is approximately 3A at 1,2m and all LEDs on
  • 5V power supply

Animations and descriptions are created using a wizard of own construction. After designing an animation, file is stored on the memory card, thanks to what it can be easily adapted to a table of different number of panels.

Panels before connection (by HEADERS and sockets):

A single panel (each panel was painted two times with black mat spray before being soldered):

Panel from the side of copper:

Animation and description wizard (you can click on each LED which illuminates or extinguishes them, you can literally draw on the table in the wizard):

LEDs turning on and off was written in Bascom. The billboard is clearly visible in daylight, it does not use multiplexing.
