Advantages of flipped bandgap reference

Has anyone tried flipping the bandgap reference circuit, meaning diodes on top and resistors on bottom. Traditionally, resistors are on top and diode pair is at the bottom connected to ground. Anyone know the advantages of this structure ?
 

If you flip the reference it means the bandgap voltage is referenced to the plus supply and not ground.
 

Might be flipped but could also be folded, like you
take the currents off the diodes with as little excess
headroom as possible, and mirror it off the positive
rail down to the tempco (PTC) resistors referred to
GND.
