a problem about a square wave generator

Hi,everyone!
below is part of a circuit.The output of the circuit is a square wave.
but i do not kown the work principle,there are two questions:
first: should the input be triangle wave or just a DC voltage?
second:what is the role of the resistor and the capacitor?is it for oscillatiing?

upper transistor is diff amp

r and c is form a filter and two transistor form back to back voltage limiter , and lower is current sink but , the bias is missing there.

as this is diff amp , you can treat it as opamp . inv ,noninv and dual output .

if it is oscillator then you can use any square wave oscillator ckt using opamp .

you will find it in any opamp book.
