can any one give me a link to a free "Atmel 8051 Based C-Compilers", plus the documentation

SDCC at http://sdcc.sourceforge.net/

Just a historical correction, 8051 does NOT originate at Atmel, but at Intel. Nevertheless, besides several tens of other manufacturers, Atmel makes clones and derivatives of it.

Well, KEIL is good one and it is commercial.

Can any one pass on their experiences with SDCC, because it is free I want to do some experiments. Is any free source level (C) visual simulator/debugger available with SDCC.

idlebrain,

have you taken the pain to go to the sdcc homepage at all?

It says:
SDCC also comes with the source level debugger SDCDB, using the current version of Daniel's s51 simulator.

Oh yes, Sdcdb is available on Unix platforms only - but what would you expect for free ;-) ?

However, the output debug file is well documented...

You know wek...! i am really idlebrain.

I have downloaded windows distribution...! and checked for that debugger... any way.. thanks a lot for answering.

not at all...

But if you really don't insist on source-level debugging, jsim is free and quite nice... Search this forum for the link.

Oh yes jsim comes with sources, so you can try to add the source debugging yourself :-o

[EDIT]: actually, jsim seems to come ready for the SDCC... hmmm.... [/EDIT]

Keil is a good one but you need to buy

You can try Ride which is free for limited try
