I need to build a simple 5V power supply DC. I have already built a transformer and rectifier parts of the circuit. I think i know how to do the smoothing part as well. However, when it comes to building the regulation part of the circuit i donno how to do this because i can't use 7805 regulator and i have a number of different diodes and transistor at my disposal. i would appreciate any help that anyoone can provide on this as i donno where to start. thnx

The current limit circuit build around Q4 and R2 limits the output current to roughly 0.65V / 0.47Ω ≈ 1.38A, so if you need different current limit change R2 to the desired value ..
