Not sure if this helps, but there are a couple of forum posts on the Sonnet Forum that talk about Photonic Band Gaps and DGS's and slow wave factors. Start here:

If these don't apply, can you give more details of what you want to know. From the pictures, it looks like you have already learned how to remove metal from the ground plane. You could also post your sonnet project file (*.son). They are usually pretty small.
