Hello!

I am trying to design a periodic array of FSS element illuminated by a plane wave:?:
like a ring FSS (as in the presentation "Frequency Selective Surfaces" of R. Remski
(Ans*ft Corp.) found on the web) or a mushroom-like EBG stucture (IEEE AP,
vol. 51, no. 10, pp. 2691-2703, Oct. 2003) using HFSS v9.2.
After struggling with the soft :?: and thanks to some posts from this site :D
I could manage creating a plane wave. However no proper result came out.
I reckon I have probably made a mistake in the model. Seeing the exact procedure
for FSS elements is neither written in the document nor in the user's manual,
I am kind at a loss .

* If anyone has the demo file for the ring FSS model, or any other model
that simulates an FSS element illuminated by a plane wave, I would be extremely
pleased and thankfull if I could get it. Else if the file cannot be sent, if someone could
tell me all the steps to follow to design such a model, it would be very nice as well.
* Should I dare asking a bit more, if someone could explain me how to extract
the data to obtain the transmission loss or the reflection phase
from the previously
analyzed element, it would be of a great help.

Seems like throwing a bottle in the sea to me but I hope some people would read
the mail and have the kindness to answer it. Thanks in advance!!

David.

Hope fully this will help. Regarding extracting the data, you can go HFSS,results, solution data or if you are in the result display window go Report2D, export to file.

Thanks Atif Shamim for your reply.
Unfortunately, I do not have enough points to download your files.
Maybe you can send them directly to my mail?

not enough points to download

Iam not enough points to download, too

solve the problem by master-slave boundary, pml layer, and plane wave together

Iam not enough points to download, too.

I don't know how to plot the transmission coefficient ? Could anyone tell me ? thanks!

Hi I am also trying to simulate FSS's using HFSS and would like to look at some examples and was wondering if someone would be kind enough to email me the two files in the post above as I do not have enough points. Thank you for your time.

It IS much easier with Version 10 and faster.

Added after 4 minutes:

The files from Atif Shamim are both for Version 8. With v9 you have a different procedure.

Thanks. I have version 10. I take it the procedure is similar to that of v9?

Added after 3 minutes:

Could you describe the method of simulating fss's in version 10. or where i could find information on how to. I will try to contact Ansoft but i dont know how quickly they will get back to me. thank you

Ansoft sent me a presentation on simulating FSSs with v10, but actually I cannot find it, sorry.

Build the structure in a box of vacuum (or air/substrate), assign periodic boundaries and set the top and bottom side to radiation: Here you have "Advanced Options" where you can switch on "Reference for FSS". This will become your port1. The second radiation will be port2, do not switch on "advanced options" here. The results will be available as S-matrix! Don't forget to set an excitation, like e.g. a plain wave.

hi all,i recommend to use DESIGNER rather than HFSS that more friendly with fss structure, here tutarial of of jerusalim cross ,may help
regards

i havn't enough points to download your file, i really want to have it

Hi, Atif Shamiml. Thanks for sharing the documents

thanks for the pdf file
still looking for HFSS step files
