Don't confuse possible features of capacitive touch sensors with useful parameters for smart phone operation. You don't want the touch to be overly sensitive.
Anyway, you can easily distinguish if a touch screen reacts on pressure or conductive objects touching/coming close to the surface. You'll find that recent smart phones are using capacitive multi-touch technology.
