The round terms looks like wrong,
Confused in switching loss and on state loss(conducting loss.

Thanks

Hi,

things change. There is a continous development in electronic devices and therefore .. what was true ten years ago may be different today.

You wonder about the statement "low conduction loss" of BJTs.
Because you know there are MOSFETs with an ON resistance below 1 mOhm.
But your document is about a mains voltage application.
Here (in my country) we have 230V RMS AC. This means the bus voltage of a simple SMPS is about 315V.
With the use of a boost PFC stage it is 350V or higher.
Now compare MOSFET and IGBT rated with 450V, 20A
IGBT: about 1.5V @ 20A, about 2€
MOSFET: 200mOhm x 20A = 4V, about 4€
MOSFET: 100mOhm x 20A = 2V, about 6€

Maybe 10 years ago there were only a couple of MOSFETS rated for 450V, nowadays there are many.
