solid state

what is the speciality in the name tag "solid state" electronics or "solid state" device

tht wht "solid state" refers to

Re: solid state

Here is very general definition:
solid-state

Solid-state refers to electronic components, devices, and systems based entirely on the semiconductor. The expression was especially prevalent in the late 1950s and early 1960s, during the transition from vacuum tube technology to the semiconductor diode and transistor. More recently, the integrated circuit (IC), the light-emitting diode (LED), and the liquid-crystal display (LCD) have evolved as further examples of solid-state devices.
In a solid-state component, the current is confined to solid elements and compounds engineered specifically to switch and amplify it. Current flows in two forms: as negatively charged electrons, and as positively charged electron deficiencies called holes. In some semiconductors, the current consists mostly of electrons; in other semiconductors, it consists mostly of holes. Both the electron and the hole are called charge carriers.

Most known and used solid-state devices are solid state relays. They do not have contacts (usually use triacs or back-to-back thyrystors) and are turned on and of at "zero crossing" - no voltage and no current, in teory that is.
If you need more info use sother earch engines..(some guys here are in love with GOOGLE...)

solid state

hi.
solid state circuite or devices reffers to because of this circuits produced on the substrates.
this substrates are common solid.

Re: solid state

the contact made with electron within solid devices such as silicon or germanium, olso there is definition about solid state radio, what is thi definition refer to?

Re: solid state

IanP 's is the perfect answer for this question!
In control device electrons flows thro' vacuume --> Tubes circuits --> Tubes Radio/TV
In contol devices electrons flows thro' solids (si, ge) --> Solid state elsectronics --> Solid State Radio/TV

Re: solid state

Hi Friend,

Before the invention of these devices the early people used vaccum tubes which are empty. But these are well defined solid electron transferring devices. So, they are called so.
