hi,
i want to start linux from scratch from where should i start

I think U better install RED HAT 9 or FEDORA CORE v10.

They have GUI for easy use.

Then U can try command shell.

Go and find a books.

For beginner "Dummy" or "Oreilly" books is better.

What do you mean? If you want to build your own LINUX box from scratch, Gentoo may be a good choice.

I still like Slackware, especially the feature that allows to run off CD live [even though it requires installations of some files on a FAT disk - maybe the new distro will let you do it on FAT32 as well. I believe SUSU has a similar feature.

Alternatively you could use a OS Virtual machine like VMWARE to do everything on a virtual drive.
Bottom line the advices are to minimize the effort related to re-installation while learning the ropes.

The Fedora branch is an unstable branch, so I don't think it's very suitable for a beginner, or even an experienced user if they don't want annoying bugs.
I like the newer SuSe releases because they keep up to date with the latest kernel versions and I like the installer as well.
However, if the current EDA tools don't want to work with new kernels and user level libraries, then you probably want Redhat 9 or possibly RH workstation.
Keep in mind that RH9 isn't being updated any longer.

Suggest not to do that. This will just waste your time and gain less. Suse 9.0 is a good choice for starting.

If you want to use a new version linux,
you can try centos, a free rebuild version of RHEL3.
