What is the best method for protecting input pins?
I have a 3.3v micro that needs to accept inputs from outside sources where the voltage is 5v to 30v approximately. These are either logical "on/off" type of signals or square waves of less then 1KHz.

Thanks

I'd propably go for some sort of diode as an input clamp.
Like a Zener diode, or two clamping diodes...
i did see this on the web a while ago. Haven't tried it yet though : **broken link removed**

most of them have clamp diodes. all you need to do is to put a resistor on the input and potentially a ZVS.
