In every digital ckt book we have a chapter on logic families which explains the rtL,TTl,emitter coupled, cmos mos etc.
What is the practical application of this? I can understand what is written in the book. (using book by Mano)

How does this help say to a person who is doing to do vlsi?

Thanks

logic family

The Logic family tells aperson workin on VLSI that he should use the Cmos family.......and Vlsi does use the CMOS......

Re: logic family

VLSI mainly based on CMOS family because it is a combination of Pmos & Nmos

Re: logic family

This gives the basic knowledge of Digital Logic Families and also the interfacing between any logic families depending on their logic levels.
So, In VLSI, it helps in making digital circuits.

Re: logic family

it is akin to menu card in a hotel....depend upon ur carvings(design needs) u can pick a device....area, prog. delay, noise margin, power consumption and so many are factors that plays pivtol role in selection

Re: logic family

guys,
from what i read is that the chapter explains terms such as fan in etc and gives a few gate construction using transisitor cmos etc. but how does that help in vlsi?

logic family

these once you know than the utility will be know nothing is use less

more you know more you will be having choices

logic family

without knowing the fan out and fan in if you design a module and if you find later that you have crossed the maximum fan in at a particular parts of your design.... then you will have time constraint problem which may even lead to redesigning everything...

Re: logic family

Its like based on your requirement you choose the Logic family.

CMOS--> more transistors can be fabricated than TTL or any other logic families.

Now a Days, SOC contains all the modules that you need to build your own application.
