image processing filed

hi,

i have my project in the field of image processing. could anyone suggest me or explain the current challenges that are present in the field of image processing. i am aiming at developing a redonfigurable architecture using FPGAs for processing of images, incorporating all possible techniques such as compression, enhancement etc... am also planning to design a low power system. could anyone suggest me as to how this could be made more challenging. or any new ideas that can be added to this.. pls post replies.. even a small hint would help me...

regards,
arunmit168.

Re: image processing filed

Hi .. well if what you want is challange there is plenty in the medical imaging field .When an MRI TOMOGRAPHY image ia acquired a lot of Cylindrical reconstruction also in what is called digiral reconstructed radiography (adaptive binarization) This medica area there is plenty of work to improve and to lower costs of what is already there!

hi arunmit168.

Try to make images containing steganographic copyright not-removable by editing image by some other application. Would be also very valuable.

Money counterfeiting. Try making a steganographic signature-reader machine FPGA processing steganographic signatures inserted by other means to paper-money to make money less prone to counterfeiting. A small machine.

Other hot-topics in imaging are in medical field which definitely must involve some heavy DSP processing.

yeh.. that is a very good idea!!! gr8... and i would be happier if it has lots of DSP applications also.. coz i love that 2... hehe :) ur suggestions are most welcome... could u explain what u meant in that a little further. i could get what u say but to be confident... and does this require any image compression techniques? if not what image processing things would this require?? would be happy if u could spot it out..

yeh.. there are many challenges in medical field.. but i wanted to know if that would take more time studying the medical aspects.. coz this project has a time lmit.. got to complete before that.. but i dont want to submit it just like that without any involvement.. could u brief it out a little more...

big thanks to ur valuable suggestions.. really both were 2 good.. thank u :)

hi arunmit168

first idea:

Images (or for that case videos too) sometimes have a copyright signature inserted. JPEG images are lossy compression. During this compression you may loose the signature of copyright inserted. In any kind of image format try to make an application which creates images with copyright signature created in order to imune to loss of compression.

Have you seeing for example spread spectrum (also involved in image steganography) inserted communication message is recovered even if noise is 20times higher? Do something which no matter how much compression is applied copyright signature is in-tact or at least is better than current ones.

second idea (i like this one):

You know any kind of paper-money has some copyright/signatures to prevent from counterfeiting. Nowdays people can easily use various methods to counterfeit.

Why not making a small commercial FPGA money reader of a hidden signature in image stamped in money stores in supermarkets can use everyday.

They actually use some pen-marker for dollar bill in USA but people even now found the secret how to make the "secret paper" dollar bill is made and are able to counterfeit the magnetic strip inserted inside the bill.

Stores would love to have a detection system. It would save them billions in years in row.

Another method would be also to incorporating FPGA signature reader with driving a small amount for microwave in few-milimiters range scanning to detect vapor signature of paper money is made. Since they make money from a customized paper you can read also this vapor signature which will be processed by your FPGA application for comparision. Dogs have this vapor signature detector built-in in their noses, Dug-detecting machines use vapor signatures.

MRI uses spin of electron in medical applications. Why not use it in moeny counterfeiting? In MRI they compare samples readed from patient with samples of belonging to a paticular illness. You can also use FPGA also as MRI to compare with known signature of real money.

Another novel method of protecting money from counterfeiting. To be honest you will find sponsors for this project.
