Whats wrong with this motor controller circuit

I would be glad if someone could help me urgently with this circuit.. I get a output of 9v between output 1 & 2 in the L298 motor controller without connecting the motor. But as soon as I connect the motor the voltage across output 1& 2 drops to 0v. So the motor doesn't work. Im new to motor controllers.. can someone please help me to figure out what the problem is
 

SenseA and SenseB on L298 are not connected to ground. These are the bottoms of the H-bridges. They should be connected to ground directly or through current sense resistors. Read-up the L298 datasheet about these pins.
